Southwest Florida Eagle Cam (Will Live Stream starting in December)
The St. Francis Students have been watching the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam for about 7 years now! We have watched the eagle eggs hatch, the parents feed them, the baby birds grow and eventually leave the nest! It’s a treat for us every sing year.
“The goal of the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam Foundation is to provide a unique educational resource to wildlife officials and individuals all around the world. We strive to create awareness for all raptors alike and provide financial incentives to programs who commit themselves for the conservation and education of wildlife. Resources will be used to provide education opportunities for classrooms, offices, organizations, societies and other programs that have similar goals so that we may better understand and protect eagles.”
The nest is located in Fort Myers, FL off of Bayshore road on the property of Dick Pritchett Real Estate. Securely built inside two branches of a Slash Pine tree, the nest is approximately 60 feet from the ground. The surrounding area is approximately 135 acres and includes a horse pasture, small pond, and the office of Dick Pritchett Real Estate.
Ozzie and Harriet’s nest is a short 1 mile flight away from the Caloosahatchee River, which serves as their primary food source. The pair of eagles rely mostly on fish from the river (Mullet, Catfish, Red Fish, Snook, Gar), but may also eat small rodents if the opportunity presents itself.
